Student Graduations!
Congratulations to Dilan and Mariana (as well as baby Sophie
), who recently graduated from their Intermediate Course with their teacher, Gwyn, last month!
They have both been such a warm, friendly, and absolutely wonderful addition to the YES family.
Dilan and Mariana have both progressed and improved so much on their language learning journey, not only in their ability to speak and understand English, but most importantly, in their confidence
We could not be prouder of them and their amazing achievement, and we wish them all the best!
We hope to see you both again soon!

YES International Food Day
| Thank you to all of the students and staff who attended and contributed their wonderful dishes for our YES International Food Day event on 23rd May 2025. We went on an international food tour all the way from “Tuzlu Kurabiye” and “Cig Kofte” (Turkey), to “Kapsa” (Saudi Arabia), to “Mbten” (Libya), to “Bobotie” and “Biltong” (South Africa), to “Boxty” (Ireland), to “Romeu e Julieta” cake (Brazil). This was a wonderful to chance to learn about and taste all of these delicious dishes from all of our different countries and cultures! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Once again, you all made the event truly memorable (and delicious!), and we hope to see you at the next one! ![]() |

Dive into Summer: Fun Summer Activities from
A Very British Tradition
| Summer is a time to soak up the sun and enjoy the great outdoors. Whether it’s a trip to the beach, a picnic in the park, or trying a new activity, there’s so much to explore. Here are some fun activities to inspire your summer plans: |
Beach Day: Enjoy a day by the sea building sandcastles, flying kites, and splashing in the waves. Popular beach locations within a couple of hours from Huddersfield include Scarborough, Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay. If you’re looking for a longer trip, Cornwall has many lovely seaside locations where you can enjoy the beach. ![]() Nature Walks and Hikes: Discover local trails and enjoy the beauty of nature. Whether it’s a gentle walk or a challenging hike, it’s a great way to connect with the outdoors. If you’re looking for a nice shady walk nearby, Gledholt Woods is a nice option, otherwise, if you’re feeling more outdoorsy, you can enjoy a walk around Marsden Moor (you can also walk to Marsden from Huddersfield along the canal if you’re feeling particularly energetic). If you’re looking for something further away, the Lake District and the nearby Peak District are also beautiful locations with lots of lovely scenic spots and picturesque walks.![]() ![]() Outdoor Sports: Whether it’s cycling, tennis, or football, summer is perfect for staying active and having fun! Why not sign up for some tennis lessons at the local Huddersfield Lawn & Tennis Club if you’re looking to try something new? ![]() ![]() Water Activities: Cool off with swimming, surfing, paddleboarding, or kayaking. Water sports are not only refreshing but also a fantastic way to stay active. If you’re not keen on the beach, or you’re looking for something easy and local, Kirklees Leisure Centre has a swimming pool and small indoor water park. ![]() ![]() ![]() Picnics: Experiment with summer recipes like homemade lemonade or fruit salads. Pack a picnic and enjoy your culinary creations in a park or garden. Ravensknowle Park and Greenhead Park are both close to the town centre and are great spots for a picnic. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Barbecues: Barbecues at home are a popular summer tradition in the UK- people like to make the most of the good weather since it won’t be here for too long! Various meats, including burgers and sausages, are cooked on the fire, as well as “corn on the cob” and other grilled vegetables, and often served with bread rolls, salads, and other side dishes. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Summer Reading: Dive into a good book under a shady tree at the park or under an umbrella at the beach. Why not take out a book from Huddersfield Library or borrow a graded reader for your level from our YESchool bookshelf? (Ask your teacher if you need a recommendation). ![]() ![]() ![]() Gardening and foraging: Grow your own herbs or flowers and watch your garden come to life in the sunshine. You can also try out a local foraging course to learn how to find plants and mushrooms in nature that you can eat! ![]() ![]() DIY Crafts: Use your creativity to make summer crafts or start a project. Try painting pots, creating wind chimes, or even building a birdhouse. You might also want to try a pottery throwing session to see if you like it and learn a new skill! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Stargazing: On clear nights, lay out a blanket and watch the stars. Summer skies can be particularly awe-inspiring with meteor showers and constellations. Why not take an evening drive to the top of Castle Hill for a scenic night-time view of the city lights and starry night sky? ![]() |
