Student Testimonial 💌

We always love hearing about our students’ experiences at YES and how this has gone on to shape their lives and progress after YES.

We wanted to share a testimonial that truly touched our hearts, from one of our recent graduates- Mariana :

My Testimonial

My three months at Yorkshire English School (YES) were simply incredible. It was a unique and transformative experience, both in terms of learning and personal growth.

I started in February, and I still remember my very first lesson; it felt like complete chaos! I could barely understand anything and felt totally lost. That same week, I had a Midwife appointment, which was also a disaster. I panicked, cried, and felt frustrated. The English I had studied before was so different from the local accent and intonation, and the way people link words here made it seem impossible. I honestly thought I wouldn’t learn anything and that I had wasted my money…

But as the weeks went by, something changed. Slowly, I started to understand more and more; it was as if I were coming up for air after drowning. The more I progressed in class, the more I could “breathe”. And after just three months, I could see how much I had grown. Of course, three months isn’t enough to become fluent, but it was the solid foundation I needed to feel confident and keep going.

What made the experience even more special were the people. I had the honour of sharing this journey with two amazing women whom I now have the pleasure of calling my friends: Gwyn (my teacher) and Dilan. And even though I didn’t have the chance to talk as much as I’d like with lovely girls Abbi and Murriam (at reception), I’m sure we’ll keep in touch and hopefully meet again soon. I also can’t forget Wendy and Ismael, who are both so kind and truly made me feel welcome.

The environment at YES is warm and supportive, and I felt part of a community from the very beginning.

During all of this, I also carried a very special companion with me to class: Sophie, my baby girl, is in my belly yet, and she made her presence known with her little kicks, especially when I fully understood something Gwyn was saying! I like to believe she’ll be born understanding perfect English.

In the near future, I plan to take private lessons at YES, and my husband will join me. We both want to improve our English together, not just for ourselves, but to help Sophie grow up bilingual and confident in both her languages. This is important for our personal and professional lives.

So, to anyone unsure or afraid, like I was at the start, YES can truly change your perspective and give you the tools and support you need. It was one of the best decisions I made.

Film Suggestion of the Month 🎬 :

A powerful story about a janitor at M.I.T. who is a self-taught mathematical genius. With the help of a therapist, he learns to embrace his potential and consider new paths in life.

Talk to us! Question of the Month 📝

We want to hear from you! Feel free to write your answer in English and send it to us at info@yeschool.uk (or drop it off at reception). We’ll share some of the best answers in next month’s newsletter!

Graduations are an important moment to recognise the hard work and progress that we have made, and we always value being part of our students’ journeys. Although we always miss our students after they leave, they always remain an important and valued part of the YES family, and we love to hear about their progress and how their lives have changed after they leave us. Tell us your story! 🧑‍🎓

Question:

How was your YES experience? And how has your life changed since studying at YES?
