Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between ESOL and General English?
ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) is for people already living in the UK who do not need a visa to stay or to study English. It focuses on practical English for everyday life. General English is aimed at international students studying English as a foreign language, who want to travel to the UK to work or study. If you live locally and want practical English for daily life, ESOL is ideal for you.
What is M-ESOL?
M-ESOL combines English language learning with Mathematics. It helps you develop both skills together in a supportive environment. The M-ESOL course is fully funded for eligible Kirklees residents aged 18 and over.
Do I need any English to start?
No. Our ESOL courses are open to total beginners as well as more experienced learners. Before you join, we will assess your level and create a personal action plan so you start in the right group.
Is the free M-ESOL course really free?
Yes, completely free for eligible Kirklees residents aged 18 and over. The course is fully funded. There are no hidden costs. However, places are limited, so we recommend registering as early as possible.
Can ESOL help with visa or citizenship applications?
Our ESOL courses can help you prepare for exams you may need for work, leave to remain, or citizenship. However, ESOL is not suitable for international applicants needing a student visa — for that, please see our General English courses.
What happens after ESOL?
Unlike some other providers, we progress you through the entry levels. Once you complete ESOL, you can move on to our General English courses or even IELTS preparation if you want to study at university.
When can I start?
You can enrol at any time — there is no fixed start date. Simply contact us or fill in the enquiry form below and we will arrange your level assessment and get you started.
