What makes YES the best language school in the UK? +
Our commitment to excellence in language education makes YES stand out. Our experienced instructors, comprehensive curriculum, personalised learning approach, and vibrant student community create an ideal environment for mastering English. As a smaller school, we prioritise student success and satisfaction which sets us apart as a language school. Also, our central location within Yorkshire and near beautiful natural landscapes (including the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales) makes it a convenient base to visit many nearby historic sites, and cities such as Leeds, Manchester, and York.
What courses are available at YES? +
At YES, we offer a wide range of courses, including General English, Intensive English, exam preparation (IELTS), Summer School, Private Lessons, and Teacher Training. You see more information about our courses here. Our programmes are designed to cater to students of all proficiency levels and learning goals. We can also offer courses/lessons for other languages according to demand.
Are the instructors qualified? +
Yes, all our instructors are qualified with relevant degrees and certifications in teaching English as a second language. They have extensive experience and a passion for helping students succeed. As a British Council-accredited language school (see our full report here), we ensure high-quality teaching through a rigorous hiring process, ongoing professional development for our instructors, and a well-structured curriculum that incorporates tried and tested methodologies. Regular feedback from students helps us continuously improve the learning experience.
Does YES offer online English courses? +
Yes, we can accommodate online English lessons for private students, or for closed groups (if you have a group of 3 or more people). These classes are designed to provide the same level of engagement and interactivity as our in-person sessions, using appropriate platforms for a comfortable learning experience. Contact us directly for more information.
Can you provide accommodation? +
Yes. We arrange accommodation near the school through trusted local providers. Weekly prices: shared student accommodation £170, studio £190, homestay (standard board) £220, homestay (no meals) £190. An accommodation administration fee of £60 applies for every 12 weeks of accommodation, and for each booking change. Summer prices may differ. See our accommodation page for details. If you prefer to find your own accommodation, our team is happy to help.
What is the cost of the courses? +
Weekly prices depend on course and length:
• General English or IELTS (15 hours): £180 a week, £170 from 12 weeks, £160 from 24 weeks
• Intensive General English or IELTS (22.5 hours): £250 a week, £240 from 12 weeks, £230 from 24 weeks
• 1-1 lessons: £35 an hour, £30 from 60 hours, £25 from 120 hours
International students also pay a £120 administration fee, and course materials are £50 per 12 weeks. Use our price calculator for an estimate, or contact us.
What is the typical class size at YES? +
The typical class size at Yorkshire English School ranges from 8 to 12 students. This small class size allows for individualised attention from instructors and encourages a more interactive and effective learning experience.
Can I get a certificate when I complete my course? +
Yes, all students receive a PDF certificate of completion once they finish their course, which can be valuable for academic or professional purposes. Printed certificates are included free of charge for students studying a full-time course of at least 12 weeks or more, otherwise a printing charge of £10 applies.
How can I pay for my course? +
For most students, all course fees are paid before the course starts, preferably by bank transfer or in cash. We also accept card payments (a card payment charge applies). Students applying for a visa for a 12, 24 or 36-week course can choose Route 1 (pay in full, with refund protection) or Route 2 (pay a fixed, non-refundable visa fee of £230, £290 or £350, then the balance once your visa is granted). See our visa page for details.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule my course? +
If your visa is refused: on Route 1 (paid in full) we refund all fees except the £120 administration fee (and the accommodation administration fee of £60 per 12 weeks, if booked). On Route 2 (fixed visa fee) the fee is non-refundable, but one free re-application is included. We need a copy of the official UK Visas and Immigration refusal letter, and bank charges are paid by the student. Cancellation before your course starts for any other reason is considered case by case, and any refund is at our discretion. If you need to reschedule or defer your course, contact us with reasonable notice.
